Camp and Retreat Ministry is moving forward, and we are starting a campaign to support the development of a new center in Wakeman Township, Ohio. As part of this effort, parishes can partner with the Diocese to raise funds for their own needs while also supporting the diocesan project. If you would like more information, contact Katie Ong-Landini at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 216-774-0454.
We will continue to provide updates about our progress on the project website here.

4655 State Route 60
Wakeman, Ohio 44889
Directions to the Wakeman site:
The property is located in Wakeman Township about 0.5 miles north of the intersection of US 20 and State Route 60 on the west side of the road. Look for the “God Loves You. No Exceptions.” sign at the entrance to the property. The driveway into the property is on the north side of the two barns next to the farm house. Continue on the driveway towards the yellow brick house. Turn left and follow the driveway down to the recreational area. Park in the lot on the west side of the swimming pond.
Now that the campaign team has surpassed the fundraising benchmarks, the project team is moving ahead with the next steps to create the new center. We are working with the GO Logic/Ann Kearsley Design team (the same group that created the master plan) to develop the final design for the center, and we expect to break ground on the project by the end of 2015, with a completion date of summer 2017. We also plan to offer a limited camp program during the summer of 2016.
In addition to the design work, the program working groups will start planning this spring to figure out the nuts and bolts of the kinds of offerings that we will host at the center when it is fully functional. As those plans develop, please check this website for updates.
Meanwhile, there will be a couple of opportunities to enjoy the Wakeman site this year. The first is during the Spring Youth Gathering, May 1-3, when Christ Church, Oberlin will host the youth of the Diocese for activities, including marching in Oberlin's annual The Big Parade, where we will have a float that celebrates the move of camp and retreat ministry to Wakeman. The youth will spend part of their time at the new site, doing a prayer walk intermingled with learning about the various natural features there. In July, the Urban RenUal Camp, co-sponsored by Historic St. John's Church, Ohio City and Christ Church, Shaker Heights, will run from July 6-11. Campers will spend the final two days in Wakeman, ending with a celebratory pot-luck picnic with their families.
Finally, look for an announcement this spring about a celebration of the Planting for Tomorrow - Growing in Faith Today campaign on Saturday, June 20 to thank our campaign team for the success of this historic effort.
