Mission: Centered in congregations, the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) empowers women to do Christ's ministry in the world.
Vision: Our vision for all women of the Episcopal Church is to become a vibrant blend of all ages, coming together as a peacemaking, healing part of the Church. We aspire to be a Godspark—shining and sharing the love of Christ.
Purpose: The ECW in the Diocese of Ohio is the fellowship of all the women of the church and is organized to enable the women to serve our Lord through worship, stewardship and fellowship. The ECW is organized to assist the women of the Episcopal Church to carry on Christ's work of reconciliation in the world and take their place as leaders in the life, governance and worship of the church.

Carlotta East Scholarship
The Carlotta East Scholarship Fund was established to provide aid to Episcopal women who need scholarship assistance to complete their education, to upgrade their skills before returning to the workforce, or to take religious training.
The fund, established in 1945 with a bequest of $7,874.88, is invested with the Trustees of the Diocese of Ohio. In June, 1988, the invested amount was increased by $5,000 when the Diocesan Episcopal Church Women (ECW) Board voted to transfer this amount from the Carlotta East liquid assets to the principal of the Carlotta East Scholarship Fund. The dividends and interest from this investment are used to grant scholarship aid to Episcopal women. The usual grant for scholarship aid is approximately $500 per applicant. Exceptions in amounts granted may be made by the Carlotta East Scholarship Committee.
If additional donations are received for Carlotta East Scholarships, that amount is added to the amount available for distribution to candidates.
The Carlotta East Scholarship Committee reviews grant applications and submits recommendations to the Diocese of Ohio ECW Board Meeting, which is held prior to the Diocese of Ohio ECW Annual Meeting, held in April or May. The Diocese of Ohio ECW Board reviews the submitted grant applications and usually approves the recommendations from the Carlotta East Scholarship Committee.
Book of Remembrance
Eliza Jennings Backus, who was the president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Diocese of Ohio from 1919 to 1929, realized that the Board's Expense Fund was insufficient for its work. Nominees for office were limited to those who were able to afford the necessary expenses. She inaugurated the idea of the Eliza Jennings Backus Endowment by means of a Book of Remembrance.
Mrs. Backus presented the first volume of The Book of Remembrance, a beautifully hand-tooled purple leather book. The Schmid Family of Canton generously presented the second volume in 1949. It is also hand-tooled and is bound in red leather. A third volume was started in 1973, and a fourth volume is now in use. All of the books will be on display at Annual Meetings.
If you wish to memorialize or to honor someone who has been in any way connected with women's work in the Church, either by giving or in service, you may have her name inscribed in The Book of Remembrance.
For each name inscribed, a minimum donation of $5.00 to the Eliza Backus Endowment Fund is required. Interest paid on the investment is sent to the Diocesan Board for travel expenses.
